The Ting Tings are a Bri’ish band that sings a song called That’s Not My Name.

Can’t embed the vid anymore, so you’ll have to click on the link. Take a listen while you read me… you don’t actually have to watch the video. I just need you to hear the song.

I stopped listening to the Ting Tings for a while because I couldn’t get Beatles songs out of my head after watching Across the Universe. And then we watched Sweeney Todd and I couldn’t get Johnny Depp and Helen Bonham Carter out of my mind. (I crocheted while we watched so I didn’t have to see the bloody mess he was making.) The music is really great despite the moral degradation and sad ironic state of the characters. Josh and I want to watch Jersey Girl again because the little girl does Sweeney Todd for a school talent show.

Well, back to the Ting Tings… I started listening again today and I still like them. Let me know if your shoulders start bopping to the beat. Mine do. I find it interesting that an emotional subject like people not knowing your name (sniff) would be set to music that makes you want to get up and jerk your stuff. I mean, being the “last kid standing up against the wall” when they’re picking teams sucks, right? And somebody calling you hell isn’t a good thing. So we’ll chalk it up to poetic license or artsy fartsy oxymoronic music.

What I really want to know is why do the Brits call their lovers “bird”—it’s a term of endearment, I think. So do any of you know? Enlighten me.

Da Police!!
Current mood: busy

The Police are coming to Houston on June 29 and guess who bought tickets? Yep! Josh did… one for me, one for him, and one for his mom (but if she doesn’t want to go, then maybe it’s for you… send comment now for dibs). We’ll probably be like Lorelai Gilmore and Sookie at the Bangles concert, tho… they couldn’t stop laughing at how far away their seats were to the stage. Oh, well. Music is music right? Although, there is something to be said about having Doug Pinnick’s shoe in your face while he’s cranking “We Were Born To Be Loved” with your husband protecting you from getting crushed up against the stage.

So I remember watching the “Every Breath You Take” video over and over again at my dad’s house the summer it came out. The acoustic bass looked pretty sweet in the video (whether it was actually used or not). And then The Police just fell off the earth… very rock and roll, but I’m glad that Sting, Copeland and Summers’ egos finally grew up and the band members are getting back on the stage together… and I get to go see it live!

I’m excited, but historically, I’m not really a concert-going person. I tend to get strung along with someone who is… and Josh is. I think my very first concert was in middle school with those guys that sang that “I Wanna Be a Cowboy” song… it was in Spokane, WA and I was excited to just be in a big city (I was living in Hayden Lake, ID at the time). The girl I was with was a “new waver” and I was just pretending, so I didn’t get to yell and act all crazy. I had to be cool with my black eyeliner and one big rhinestone earring and not smile.

I went to Depeche Mode with my high school friend Liz Ishii… she was a music snob and ultra popular compared to me. I was living with my dad in Cali by then, and I had a blast at that concert. I didn’t have to act like someone I wasn’t. I went with my cousins to see David Bowie in Cali, too. He’ll forever be the only person who can look cool smoking… all you other smokers out there don’t. Trust me. And then I saw Basia in Honolulu… got hooked up with front row seats and went with my mom. That was the best! Good times…

And I think that was it until December 2005… Josh took me to see King’s X in Houston for our 11th wedding anniversary. His parents came up to stay with the kids and we stayed out until 3am!! That’s like getting to eat cake and ice cream in bed before surgery. OK, if you don’t have kids then maybe you don’t get it. That was so much fun. It made me wish that I had gone with him to see Steve Vai. He went with his buddy Justin and I didn’t want to cramp his style and I wanted to make sure we could still pay the bills… Well, Justin’s wife ended up going and never again will I miss that opportunity… [insert English accent] dash the bills, I say!

So keep stringing me along… I trust all those with trained ears in my presence, namely you Josh. I love King’s X now. I probably won’t ever get into Rush (Ooops, did I just blaspheme?) except for a few select songs. I already love The Police, so no effort needed there, but it will be interesting to see what the music will be like now compared to their younger selves… It was a little different when they sang Roxanne at the Grammy’s. But, dude, I get to see it in person come June!
