Craft is the new cool… I read it somewhere on the cyber journey I just took. If you read my About page, you know that I’m just discovering how vast the craft blogs are out there. I found Spoonflower after reading about how How About Orange started designing fabric. And I think I found How About Orange because of my new friend, Angry Asian. I think Angry Asian found me because I left a comment for Homemade by Jill way back when.

See what I mean? “Circles and triangles and now we’re hanging out with your new girlfriend.” And I’m not giving a complete list of where all I went, so who knows where I got that first line.

The real reason for my post is to say that I signed up to be on the waiting list to be invited to join Spoonflower. Since it’s still in BETA– I don’t really know what that actually means, but from what I gather is what a website is before it gets really and truly launched… like an egg before it hatches… it’s in egg mode right now. Apparently after it hatches you’ll be able to just sign up. So I’m getting in before the yolk becomes a chick, if you will. Spoonflower will then send me an invitation to join. Sounds pretty elite… you must be invited to the party. Some of the 2000 or so people who are already signed up have been leaving their designs and projects they made on flickr for the world to see. Kinda cool.

I’m always on the look out for cute strawberry stuff… what if I designed my own strawberry fabric? Intriguing, yes?

My reasoning to join is that even if I never design one thing to be put to fabric at least I’ll have the option through this new company. And if you ever hear me complain about not finding any cute strawberry fabric you can all tell me to shut my pie hole and make it myself!

This is just a quick post (I’m on deadline… shhhhhh!) as I demean myself as rock star groupie… this guy is an inspiration. I think Josh is man-crushing on him. His first post was last month and despite his blog title, I think he’ll be around for a while… he is the latest craze… This link is my gift to you. It’s like getting in on the MLM at the top of the pyramid. Now you can read up on who he is (without going back a hundred posts, I think he only has about 20 so far) and sit at your computer, checking your google reader every minute for the “stuff [that] spouts out of the hole in [his] head”. (Couldn’t find a link to a youtube vid of the song I reference, so I did the next fave song by them. Enjoy.) Anyway, I think his kid rocks on the drums despite being a rock target for the bullies at school.

I’m back on deadline with my day job and all I want to do is make stuff. Several of my friends are expecting, and in my internet wave riding adventures, I found Jill. She posts her creative projects a la Martha Stewart on her blog and I just love her style. I want to make dolls (even though I don’t particularly care for dolls and cut the hair off all my Barbies when I was a little girl), burp cloths, and cloth baby shoes. (All of these are on Jill’s blog… I’ve added her to my faves, so check her out.)

In addition to the projects of my new virtual BFF (whether she likes it or not) I’m crocheting the edges of blankets and burp cloths. The proper way to get the holes around the edges is made by a hemstitching machine—a very rare and very expensive machine. You can send your fabric off to someone who owns one of these machines and they’ll send it back with perfect holes perfect for crocheting. I paid just over three bucks for a winged needle and have developed my own process of zigzag stitching and crocheting in the holes made by the winged needle. It requires a little more umph to get the needle through the hole, but I think I like the results. I’d rather pay in sweat than dollars. I’ll add a picture so you can steal the idea from me and get your own creative juices flowing. Then we can neglect our day jobs together…
I probably should watch what I write because I got a call from my boss today and she announced that she had read my blog. Well, maybe that was just a one time thing since it was a post dedicated to her… anyway, I’m getting off right. now. to. go. get. some. work. done. yeah. that’s right.
