Internet Access / Sight Restored
Whew… I didn’t have to suffer afterall. Our internet access was restored the night before I drove home. Josh texted me while I was on the road yesterday. The drive was clear on the normal route home and the weather was beautiful. A little windy, but maybe it helped blow me home faster. We left at around 9:30 or 10 am and got home around 2:30 or 3 pm with a couple of stops.
We stopped at the luxury rest stop in Victoria which is almost the halfway mark. The boys played, Sarah read, and I fed Zoe. Then we trekked on up to Jr’s in Wharton and stopped just long enough to load up with kolaches and some serious beef jerky and beef survival sticks. That’s where we get the deer corn and I noticed the price went up to $7.50 for a 50-pound bag. Maybe it’s deer season. I’m still working on the last bag I bought, so I didn’t buy any. We didn’t stop again until we were in our driveway.
I must be in a delayed nesting syndrome. I barely kissed and hugged Josh before I was off. Josh and I got the boys to unpack and clean their room. They all had to get their stuff out of the front room which is going to be my office. I started laundry. I unpacked all the food we had taken with us and back. I cleaned up the kitchen and kitchen table which still had signs of our candlelit nights playing cards after Ike knocked the power out. The boys had to sweep/vacuum the floors and then Sarah and I scrubbed the tile in the kitchen. Now Zoe can crawl around in relative cleanliness.
When it was time to make dinner (I’m always amazed when I have an appetite after constant snacking on a four-hour drive), Sarah made rice and I brought home Wendy’s chili. The chicken in our cooler was still rock hard, so I had to save Shoyu Chicken for tonight’s dinner. I had gone to Wal-Mart for milk, eggs, and Diet Coke. The store was pretty sparse. There were no eggs and the meat and produce sections were almost non-existent. They had all their Halloween stuff out, though! (The commercialization of holidays must go on!)
Later, when the kids were in bed and Josh had fallen asleep during a show we were watching, I cleaned my new office. It was like Hurricane Ike had hit that room specifically—it was bad! I vacuumed and cleared a space for my desk. I sorted papers and junk the kids forget to play with or use, but don’t get rid of. Now I’m itching to move everything from my room, but Josh says he has some work to do and my desk isn’t packed up and ready to move yet anyway. Still, I’m wonder woman this weekend. It might wear off any second, so I have to keep it going while the going is good. I even brought the ladder in from the garage and changed the air filter in our room. Josh wants to get me a cape.
This was just supposed to be a quick update. I’m really on here to get the lesson to teach Zack’s primary class on Sunday. The Primary President was having a hard time finding a sub, so she called me. Since I’ve been in her shoes many times, I’m happy to help. The Primary President before me was always there for me, too, so I will follow her good example. Next Sunday Josh and I will probably teach our first marriage class during Sunday School. It should be interesting.
All you ladies, don’t forget to go to Women’s Broadcast tonight! Our stake canceled the dinner and service project, but the program is at 7pm. It will be at the stake center and at our building, or you could go online to www.lds.org and watch. This part of the year marks one of my anniversaries as a convert. The sister missionaries who taught me 15 years ago invited me to Women’s Broadcast after I met with them for the first time. I’ll never understand how someone like me said yes to going and then actually showed up. It was amazing listening to Chieko Okazaki talk about her Hawaiian Quilt and I loved the feeling I had from the get-go. Being a member of the Relief Society has helped me play nice with girls. Being a tomboy, I never really liked girls. RS has been a lesson in sisterly love and service. I have been friends with women 50 years older than me, girls younger than me, rich, poor, nice, crazy, and even silly. I love them all.

What a nice contribution to RS… actually it goes perfectly with the first talk which was all about the purpose of RS.
Anyway, I’m glad all is almost back to normal at your home. Get some more milk, eggs, bread, and meat at Wal-Mart and ALL will be back to normal!
I JUST WATCHED IT AT HOME!
